Current Form (Last 6 matches) - New season has yet to start!
The 2010 season is fast approaching and, following the heavy snow and rain, groundwork has begun in ernest. With our long-serving groundsman taking a very well earmed retirement following the close of last season it has fallen on 2 of the younger members of the squad to volunteer to take over the task. One of those happens to be me, along with current Sunday XI captain Barry. I must say that having the whole ground covered in snow for a good proportion of the early part of 2010 has certainly not helped matters, but we've done our best to get on with all the necessary work now that conditions have slightly improved.
We've got a big season ahead of us this year, I envisage that survival once again in Division 2 is going to be a mammoth task, but one that I believe we can acheive if we all play to the best of our abilities. Our Saturday XI will be the training ground for some of our younger players who are now too old to play junior cricket. Having already played many games in previous season I can't see that there will be a problem with that - if anything they'll probably improve the standard of the side (no offense to all the Saturday XI players!).
Talking of our youngsters - the Colts under-15 side have been entered into the Saxon Shore League for the first time in several years. It's going to be very tough for them with most of the opposition being composed of far larger clubs from around the south of Kent. Hopefully all those involved will get both enjoyment and experience from playing in this league. Good luck to everyone involved in the team!
Fixtures for the season will be posted once I have a definitive list from which to write them!
Sunday XI Captain :- Barry Wire ; Sunday XI Vice Captain :- Alex McNeice
Saturday XI Captain :- Dan Moxham ;; Saturday XI Vice Captain :- Dan Cowell
Match Reports
Woodchurch CC v Saltwood CC – Saturday 5th September 2009
Sadly for such an important match we were left struggling to make a full team. Big T had to pull out - something about a damaged knee during his 30th birthday celebrations (a likely story) so Leigh Blackman stepped in as 12th man Read more.....

Saltwood CC v Bossingham CC – Sunday 29th August 2009
On a sunny afternoon at the Wood, we welcome a duo of Rices today in lieu of an "Eventual Winners" team in the 6-a-side, so we have a fairly balanced side this week. We were somewhat trounced in the away fixture earlier in the season so are looking for revenge or at least a better showing. Bossingham won the toss and elected to bat first and we opened the bowling with Matt P and Pollock. Read more.....

Saltwood CC v Selsted CC – Sunday 26 th July 2009
It started with questions about team numbers, we could claim 11 provided John (the Guv) could play so he duly went and got his kit from the car, and finished with one record and two firsts. Baz won the toss and decided to put the Wood into bat and we opened with the Gman and Shaun Read more.....

Northdown CC v Saltwood CC – Saturday 11th July 2009

Saltwood CC v Charing CC – Saturday 4th July 2009
Well it was a beautiful afternoon, even warm in the Cubby Hole!! and the Lions won the 3rd Test match against the Springboks so things were okay in some sporting areas, there was even some serious looking practicing going on prior to the match - does it seem as though I am procrastinating. The captains decided to play a 40 over match and the Wood took to the field with one player hobbling already courtesy of a kids football match Read more.....
Egerton CC v Saltwood CC – Sunday 28th June 2009
Team news not specific, did we have a full complement? Johnboy Howland had been called out of retirement (he should have been umpiring) to help make up numbers and probably only made us 10. The Howland contingent arrived first followed amazingly by Macca (just about on time) with Big T and Reedy. Baz had had to stop for petrol and was following - time crept on, Shaun and Macca went to inspect the wicket and on their way back Shaun's phone rang Read more.....

Saltwood CC v Great Chart CC – Sunday 14th June 2009
Not our strongest side out today but it was good to see Oliver who had channel hopped to join us, if we won the toss we would put GC into bat hoping that the wicket and outfield would be dryer/quicker for our innings - unfortunately GC called correctly and put us in.
Trev 2 not available today so the Gman opened with Shaun. Read more.....
Otterden CC v Saltwood CC – Saturday 13th June 2009
7 players (including a new face - welcome James Greenwood) left Kiln Corner for Otterden, Moxham and Macca were to join us at the ground. Moxham (captain for the afternoon) arrived with us, where was Macca? In view of our side, a discussion rather than a toss took place and it was decided that Otterden would bat first so that we were playing at least until tea! As the players were taking to the field, Macca arrived – hooray. Read more.....
Challock CC v Saltwood CC – Sunday 7th June 2009
This match was switched to Pluckley's ground as Challock are apparently having their pitch re-laid. Pluckley now have a very smart new Pavilion complete with running water and toilets – wayhay.
Big T was in for Heman and Dan Arnold, who was now able to turn his head both ways without any trouble!!, was in for Leigh Blackman, otherwise the team was the same as last week.
Challock were batting first Read more.....
Saltwood CC v The Harvey Grammar School – Saturday 6th June 2009
We only had 10 players for this match and Harvey GS turned up with 5 Students and 6 teachers/ringers after having been thumped last season by a rampant Saltwood. It was these ringers who caused all the damage to the Wood bowling figures. Things started promisingly, Read more.....
Leybourne CC vs Saltwood CC – Sunday 31st May 2009
Welcome into the fold to Macca and thank-you to an exhausted Shaun for replacing Josh at short notice..

Saltwood CC vs Kennington – Saturday 30th May 2009
Unfortunately Barbs was off galavanting at a wedding rather than taking her place in the Cubby Hole. So you will all have to put up with my match report this time.
Not being sure whether it was a 2:00 or 2:30 start, I decided to get to the ground at 1:55 just in case. I was happy to see Tom Leaver walking to the ground as I pulled up and was confident of a 2:30 start. The clapping emminating from the ground said otherwise tho. Walking into the ground to see the players out on the field was therefore somewhat of a shock, but as we were batting it was not too disasterous.Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Bishopsbourne – Sunday 24th May 2009
The Bishops (playing with 10 men) got off to a bit of a flyer but Matt made the breakthrough bowling their two openers Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Brookland - Sunday 17th May 2009
Well here we are, our first League match of 2009 and the possibility that the weather may interfere but a strong team is in evidence other than the fact that Baz is suffering from chronic toothache - do I hear a collective aaaahh!!?
Brookland are batting first. Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Westbourne - Saturday 16th May 2009
Several "Firsts" occurred today. Robin Shuter and Andy Reene playing their first matches this season, welcome to them both. Kenny donning a helmet for the first time in his very long career (the bounce was a bit suspect for our innings). And a Pole - A. Josefaciuk - was playing for Westbourne, they also had a Sidebottom lookalike. They also came with several supporters and a mottly assortment of dogs, one in particular with a very piercing bark whose lady owner would, every so often, hurl a ball down the ground usually towards the entrance, the whole way through the match - quite unbelievable.
Unfortunately Kenny lost the toss and Westbourne asked us to bat first. Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Elham CC - Sunday 10th May 2009
Well here we are, back again with more of last season's names returning to the fold - welcome back to Grenville aka the G-man, Heman, Teddy and Biff - things look promising. The only downside is the wind which is making the Cubbyhole rather chilly.
A 40 over match with a 9 over bowling limit was agreed and Elham having won the toss, decided to bat. Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Northdown CC - Saturday 9th May 2009
It was Jo Rice's first match of the season and he was captain of the team as well, we also say hello to a former colt, Dan Edmunds, who we think is probably Crumbie's and Big T's era.
Jo won the toss and put Northdown into bat, Read more.....
Kennington CC vs Saltwood CC - Saturday 2nd May 2009
Well here we are on our travels for the first time, weather still good and a mixture of youth and experience on show. Would our away game prove better than our home form?
During pre-match conversation a new nickname, the Ginja Ninja, was discussed although I am unable to identify the recipient in case of litigation (Big T is looking for work!). Kenny lost the toss so the Wood took to the field a man short for a while as Lewso was nose to the grindstone. Read more.....
Saltwood CC vs Mersham-le-Hatch CC - Sunday 26th April 2009
Sub-Titled - Last Man Standing (well almost)
An even better day to play cricket but a familiar problem as a drop out left us a man short - step in Tom Leaver, well done.
We are first into bat playing 40 overs, max of 10 overs per bowler. Read more......
Saltwood CC vs Mersham CC - Saturday 25th April 2009
Contrary to mid week dire weather forecasts 1.30pm at Saltwood dawned bright and clear if a little chilly. The mood in the camp was upbeat, cheerful and enthusiastic - am I laying it on a bit thick do you think?! I will also say at this point that Mersham turned up with almost a complete League team saying they needed the practice as their previous match had been cancelled - I hope you will see the hint here. The two captains eventually went to the wicket, the toss was made and after what seemed a very long, earnest discussion Saltwood were handed the ball and at 2.25pm the match finally got under way.
