shaunDriveBaz won the toss and decided to field first despite the fact that we were 2 missing as Joey and Cowlo thought it was a 2.30 start, Kearns’ son Jack a temporary sub. We opened the bowling with Reedy and Tom, B&E soon into their stride going at 5 an over even when we were up to full strength. Joey replaced Tom in the 14th over, run rate now up to 6 and he finally makes the breakthrough with a superb diving C&B, Newman going for 67 off 48 – 95 for 1 off 18. Unfortunately it was a like-for-like replacement as the next partnership added 93 in only 13 overs, Chandler caught by Cowlo off Baz for 65 of 48 – 188 for 2 off 31.

The same combination accounted for the other opener Richardson, caught Baz off Cowlo for 53 – 190 for 3 off 32. Baz then bowled his 2nd victim for 2 next over – 196 for 4 off 33. Tom back into the attack and he takes the only other two wickets to fall, a Baz catch – 219 for 5 off 37 and a Reedy catch – 233 for 6 off 39. B&E then declare after 39 overs, ending on 238 for 6.

Our batting line-up starts with Jez and Lewso but Jez is a surprise casualty in the 1st over, caught for a duck – 0 for 1 – not a good start. Kearns joins Lewso and they add 11 when Lewso is bowled for 10 – 11 for 2 off 4. Tom in next but he’s caught behind for a 10 ball duck – 16 for 3 off 7. Joey joins Kearns and they add a useful 12 in 2 overs, Kearns is then caught for 7 – 28 for 4 off 9. Harry in at 6 and he provides a useful partner for Joey before being caught also for a duck – 40 for 5 off 14. A rather dismal defeat looks on the cards as we are well behind but Cowlo is in next, announcing his arrival with a 4, but Joey is caught next over for 18 – 48 for 6 off 15. Arthur joins Cowlo and this becomes our most productive partnership, adding 51 when Cowlo is caught for 37 – 99 for 7 off 26.

We are now into the final 20 overs and have 16 overs left to reach our 239 target – only 140 more to get 🙁 but Baz is now at the crease announcing his arrival with a 6. He and Arthur add 30 to the score when Arthur is caught for 22 – 129 for 8 off 31 – 11 overs left, 110 to get – Shaun joins Baz. They add 39 in 4 overs, keeping up with the required rate before Baz is caught for 55 off 28 (one of his 6’s clearing the protective netting in front of the nearby houses and breaking a roof tile  ) – 168 for 9 off 35 – 71 needed off 7 – Reedy last man in. Scoring falls below the required rate but we can still hang on for the draw, 211 for 9 with 3 balls left but it was not to be as Reedy holes out for 9, leaving Shaun not out on 34. A smashing match played with lots of laughs and banter and hopefully a return fixture next season.
