The new, early 1 o’clock start time was delayed somewhat as nobody had checked that the scorer knew about the time change (thanks lads!) but after a “Why aren’t you here yet?” phone call from Shaun at 12.50, a mad scramble and dash, the game got under way at 1.17pm. It was a 10-a-side match, everybody apart from the keeper having to bowl at least 1 over and nobody allowed to bowl more than 4. Shaun named his team The Really Average and Moxo’s were Something Missing. Shaun won the toss and chose to field first.
The SM’s opened with Macca and Trev 1 to face Oakesy and Lewso. Macca thinking this was a “friendly” chased a single as the ball headed towards Joey, bad decision as Joey promptly ran him out with a direct hit – 13 for 1 – and with the last ball of the over Lewso rearranged Trev 1’s stumps – 15 for 2 off 2. Tom and Doug were next at the wicket, Doug caught for a single by Joey of Gil – 18 for 3 off 4, bringing in Trev 2. A second run out broke this partnership, Tom going for 8 – 43 for 4 off 7. Rob Davies joined Trev 2 adding a single to the score before being caught by Fox off Joey – 48 for 5 off 9. This brought Big T to the wicket, increasing the run rate and putting on a partnership of 79 when he was bowled by Kearns for 33 (off 23) – 127 for 6 off 18. Trev 2 still there on 57 was now joined by D. Greenwell, they added a nifty 15 in the last 2 overs, Greenwell being run out by Fox for 7 off the final ball, Trev 2 finishing not out on 65 and the Something Missing had posted a score of 142 for 7.
The RA’s opened with Lewso and Fox and they faced Davies and Tom, Trev 1 brought on for the 3rd over, an inspired change as he accounted for Lewso, caught by Tom for 18 and Fox (C&B) for 4, in his first over 25 for 2 off 3 – a much better run rate. This brought Joey and Amanda to the wicket, adding 32 to the score, Amanda then being bowled by Keets for 14 – 57 for 3 off 8. Shaun joins Joey but goes for 8 after sending a low full toss from Macca into Trev 2’s hands – 69 for 4 off 11. Scores now just about even and Blackman up next.
Another useful partnership of 33 but whereas the SM’s run rate increased at this stage, the RA’s had started to lag when Joey was caught behind by Moxo for 24 – 102 for 5 off 17. Gil in next and he adds 3 to the score before being run out – 119 for 6 off 20. Blackman on strike as Harry joins him, but they can only add 5 to the score with Keets bowling Blackman for 34 with the final ball. Really Average finish on 124 for 7 meaning that Moxo’s Something Missing take the Trophy with a win by 18 runs, congratulations to all involved.
